چکیده

Several new features were implemented in the RICH detector simulation to improve the realistic detector response: mirror surface inhomogeneities, photodetector coverage with wavelength shifter (WLS) films, collection efficiency of the photodetector. These features mostly influence the ring finder, which was tested in order to obtain limitations for the detector parameters. For this study central UrQMD Au+Au collisions at 25 AGeV beam energy with 10 embedded primary e and e− were simulated. The effect of light scattering due to mirror surface inhomogeneities was implemented as additional error with gaussian distribution to the hit measurement. As a reference point σgauss = 0.6 mm was taken, which is expected for new CBM-RICH mirror prototypes (corresponding D0=2.4 mm). Different values of σgauss were tested, results are presented in Tab. 1.

Electron Identification in the CBM experiment

In this contribution we present systematic studies and improvements for electron identification in the CBM experiment. A RICH ring recognition algorithm based on the Hough Transform (HT) [1] was improved especially for a high ring density environment. This is necessary because an optimization of the RICH detector for CBM with respect to minimization of its dimensions was done [2]. This results ...

CBM-RICH layout optimization

The RICH detector in CBM shall provide electron identification together with the TRD detectors for the measurement of low-mass vector mesons and charmonium in the di-electron decay channel. Both observables are considered key probes for the study of compressed baryonic matter in heavy ion collisions. A RICH design based on first general considerations has been developed and studied in detector ...

Simulation studies of electron identification with the RICH detector for CBM

The measurement of dielectron pairs in heavy-ion collisions at FAIR energies requires detectors which identify electrons with high efficiency and reject pions by a factor of 10 at least. Electron identification in CBM will be performed by a Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector (for momenta up to about 10 GeV/c) and a Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) [1, 2]. Main sources of a misidentificat...

High efficiency TRD for CBM in test beam and simulation

The CBM (Compressed Baryonic Matter) experiment is designed as a fixed target experiment, in which a TRD shall provide tracking of all charged particles, electron identification and discrimination against a large pion background. In order to fulfill these tasks in the context of high count rates of up to 150 kHz/cm and high particle multiplicities, we constructed TRD prototypes based on a symme...

First beam test of the Frankfurt prototype for the CBM TRD

As one of the key components in the CBM experiment, the Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) will play a significant role in the particle identification. A fast detector with double sided readout chambers[1] and a ALICE type of detector with both drift and amplification regions have been designed for the circumstance of high particle rates. We propose to build a fast detector with an amplificati...
